Conclusion: The primary care Internal Medicine program graduates we surveyed (n=14) valued our etonogestrel implant training program and perceived competence, particularly with implant placement. However, even those who intended to provide etonogestrel implants post-graduation were unable to do so.

    It is unfortunate that this group of physicians successfully trained and wanted to provide this service but faced "credentialing and clinic-practice level barriers". This may cause delay in care, more unnecessary referrals and an unintended pregnancy.
