Uterine Fibroids

Conclusion: Our data support the hypothesis that high concentrations of vitamin D decrease fibroid development but are limited by the few participants with serum 25(OH)D ≥30ng/mL. Interventional trials that raise and maintain 25(OH)D concentrations >30ng/mL and then prospectively monitor fibroid development are needed.

Background Acute abdomen comprises several emergencies. Hemoperitoneum associated with uterine fibroids, which can present as acute abdominal pain, is rare and difficult to diagnose. Especially, spontaneous hemorrhage from the rupture...

Conclusion: We report a case of hemoperitoneum of ambiguous origin that was diagnosed laparoscopically and treated by laparoscopic myomectomy to remove the origin of the hemorrhage. Surgeons should rapidly diagnose and manage acute abdominal pain in women with a history of uterine fibroids to prevent severe morbidity or even mortality....

Gonadotropin-releasing hormone receptor antagonists, as selective gonadotropin-releasing hormone receptor blockers, reduce the release of follicle-stimulating hormone and luteinising hormone from the pituitary, resulting in anovulation and amenorrhea in a dose-dependent...

Conclusion: After the restriction of the indication for ulipristal by the European Medical Agency and voluntary withdrawal from the Canadian market by the manufacturer, both because of reported drug-induced liver injuries, medical treatment tailored for fibroids is absent. Oral gonadotropin-releasing hormone receptor antagonists have the...

An Interesting Image of Transmural Migration of a Levonorgestrel-Releasing Intrauterine Device (LNg-IUD)

An Interesting Image of Transmural Migration of a Levonorgestrel-Releasing Intrauterine Device (LNg-IUD)

Source : https://www.mdpi.com/2075-4418/12/9/2227/htm

Intrauterine devices (IUDs) are very common as a method of birth control. By adding progesterone (levonorgestrel), a decrease in the risk of complications has been documented, including the risk of...

Discussion: Even though the IUD is considered a safe device with reversible effect, it can be associated with severe morbidity, with an ultrasound follow-up being required. For more precise detection of the IUD, we strongly recommend an X-ray or CT scan examination, followed by safe removal.

Fibroids are the most common benign tumors affecting the female reproductive tracts, with a cumulative incidence of 70-80% by age 50 (1). Black women are disproportionately affected by fibroids, with...

Discussion: Black women are disproportionately affected by fibroids, with higher incidence rates, earlier onset of symptoms, and increased severity of symptoms.
