" Unicorn in a Field of Horses": A Rare Case of Carcinosarcomatous Transformation in a Uterine Leiomyoma - PubMed
Source : https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/35975574/
Malignant transformation in leiomyoma is rare, with a few documented cases of sarcomatous transformation in leiomyomas. However, carcinosarcomatous transformation in leiomyomas is extremely infrequent. A 45-year-old female presented with a...
Discussion: A 45-year-old female presented with a mass sensation per abdomen for the last five months. An abdominal ultrasound revealed multiple uterine fibroids. Contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging revealed a large multiloculated abdominopelvic mass arising from the fundus of the uterus, along with multiple smaller subserosal fibroids.
Highly Cellular Leiomyoma Mixed With a Focus of Adenomyosis

The purpose of this case presentation was to highlight the importance of an adequate evaluation of images when suspicious of atypical leiomyoma and the importance of performing an extemporaneous biopsy...
Discussion: The relevance of performing extemporaneous biopsy to discard malignancy characteristic of the tissue with subsequent histology confirmation, especially in those cases like this one where high vascularity was observed before surgery and visible differences like thicknesses with irregular borders were seen.
Ultrasound-guided HIFU for uterine fibroids of hyperintense on T2-weighted MR imaging with or without GnRH-analogue-pretreated: A propensity score matched cohort study
Source : https://www.frontiersin.org/articles/10.3389/fsurg.2022.975839/full
ObjectiveTo compare the therapeutic effect of high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) ablation and HIFU pretreated with gonadotropin-releasing hormone analogue (GnRH-a) in the treatment of hyperintense uterine fibroids on T2-weighted magnetic resonance...
Conclusion: Compared with HIFU alone, the therapeutic efficacy of the heterogeneous hyperintense fibroids may be enhanced by GnRH-a pretreated with HIFU, however it is important to rule out the slightly homogeneous hyperintense fibroids.
Sciatica in Early Pregnancy With Coexisting Uterine Leiomyoma and Tarlov Cyst: A Case Report
Uterine fibroids are common, especially among women of African descent. Several women with fibroids are asymptomatic, which may contribute to underestimating its prevalence.
Conclusion: In managing a patient with early pregnancy and a history of fibroids presenting with sciatic pain, one should consider conservative management such as analgesic control and close monitoring after ruling out other probable causes.
Natural history of fibroids in pregnancy: National Institute of Child Health and Human Development Fetal Growth Studies - Singletons cohort
Source : https://www.fertstert.org/article/S0015-0282(22)00410-1/fulltext
To describe the natural history of fibroids in pregnancy in a racially diverse cohort and explore whether fibroid changes were associated with participant characteristics. Prospective cohort study. Pregnant women (n...
Conclusion: The total fibroid volume declined on average throughout pregnancy. However, summarizing across all fibroids disguises substantial heterogeneity by starting total fibroid volume and maternal characteristics.
